STROMBOLI
Human presence is rare, almost imperceptible, on Stromboli during winter.
The island exists independently of man, who lives according to the rules of 'Iddu' - 'it' in Sicilian dialect - the volcano.
The few inhabitants devote themselves to 'masonry', which consists of renovating, building and cleaning while waiting for summer to come.
Lack of a safe and equipped harbour also makes it difficult for boats to moor in case of bad weather or strong winds, further isolating the island.
An atmosphere of nervous silence shrouds everything.
